Job description
We have an exciting for a Rail System Engineer supporting a High-Speed Rail Program. This role focuses on Requirements Management (RM) and Systems Engineering for complex station and rail infrastructure systems. As part of our USA team, you will help shape the systems architecture and requirements traceability framework for one of the most ambitious rail programs in North America.
This position is currently part-time and contract opportunity while it offers a path toward becoming a fulltime Lead Systems Engineer, Requirements Manager, or Systems Engineering Discipline Lead, within a company committed to solving complex engineering challenges around the world.
Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas
1. Requirements Management (RM) & DOORS Administration
- Maintain and manage traceability between technical, safety, environmental, and interface requirements and supporting design evidence.
- Administer, update, and audit IBM DOORS / DOORS Next modules for station systems, ensuring data quality and configuration control.
- Create and maintain link rules, views, baselines, and change request workflows.
- Support discipline teams in creating, interpreting, and allocating requirements across architectural, civil, structural, MEP, systems, and operations domains.
2. Requirements Verification & Traceability (RVTM)
- Develop, populate, and maintain the Station Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM).
- Work with multidisciplinary engineers to identify verification methods (Inspection, Analysis, Demonstration, Test).
- Track verification evidence, identify gaps, and facilitate resolution.
3. Critical Items List (CIL) Management
- Establish and maintain the Critical Items List (CIL), including classification criteria for safety, interface, environmental, and sustainability.
- Facilitate workshops and reviews to document CIL triggers, mitigations, owners, and closure evidence.
- Support risk‑based prioritization and reporting.
4. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare updates to the Station Requirements Management Plan (RMP).
- Produce Requirements Verification & Traceability Reports for detailed design milestones.
- Create monthly dashboards, risk summaries, and progress reports.
5. Systems Engineering & Technical Integration
- Support requirements decomposition, allocation, and alignment with the overall system architecture.
- Assist with interface management across civil, systems, and operations disciplines.
- Participate in technical design reviews, change control boards, and coordination meetings..
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3–8 years of experience in rail/transit, infrastructure, or complex systems engineering.
- Hands on experience with requirements management tools (preferably IBM DOORS / DOORS Next).
- Experience with requirements traceability, verification & validation (V&V), and configuration control.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
Preferred
- Experience on railway, high speed rail, or transportation mega projects.
- Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle (V Model), safety requirements, and environmental compliance.
- Knowledge of interface management and multidisciplinary coordination.
- CSEP certification or interest in pursuing it.

- Ability to work collaboratively within a cross disciplinary engineering team.
- Well organized, detail oriented, and proactive in managing data and deadlines.
