Web Developer - PDF Accessibility Specialist (REMOTE - Contract)

Job Description

Job Description Our Government client is seeking a Web Developer with PDF building experience. This is a Remote role , but candidate must be located and be eligible to work in Canada . The contract length is estimated 120 days to start, with potential 1-year extension.

Overview

We are seeking an Intermediate Web Developer with strong experience in accessible PDF form development and WCAG compliance. This role supports a federal government client and requires hands-on expertise converting Word documents into fully accessible, fillable PDF forms.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of professional Web Developer experience and at least two years of direct experience creating accessible, interactive PDF forms.

Key Responsibilities

• Convert Word forms into fully accessible, fillable PDF forms
• Apply WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
• Implement interactive features including dropdown fields, radio buttons, free text fields, date selectors and digital signatures
• Optimize Word documents for PDF accessibility compliance
• Test cross-compatibility across PDF platforms for viewing and editing
• Validate form functionality for end users
• Develop written handover documentation outlining editing procedures
• Ensure all deliverables meet federal accessibility requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate:

• Minimum 5 years professional Web Developer experience within the last 10 years
• Minimum 2 years direct experience developing accessible PDF forms
• Proven experience performing ALL of the following:

•

• Preparing or reviewing Word forms to maximize WCAG accessibility compliance
• Creating fillable PDFs with dropdowns, radio buttons, text fields, date selection and digital signatures
• Testing cross-compatibility between PDF applications
• Developing written documentation for future form editing

Technical Skills

• Adobe Acrobat Pro or equivalent advanced PDF editing tools
• Strong knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards
• Experience with PDF tagging and logical reading order
• Understanding of assistive technology testing
• Microsoft Word advanced formatting and accessibility tools

Additional Requirements

• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Ability to document processes clearly and professionally
• Available to work outside normal business hours if required
• Able to provide project references from work completed within the last five years

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting federal government departments
• Experience working under professional services contracts
• Knowledge of Government of Canada Web Standards
