Job Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join a dynamic acute healthcare team across Surrey and London. This is an excellent opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist with experience in acute adult services and intensive care settings to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.
In this role, you will manage a varied caseload of adult patients within acute and critical care environments, including Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) settings. You will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
• Assess, diagnose, and manage adults presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties within acute hospital settings.
• Manage a specialist caseload within Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) and critical care environments.
• Deliver evidence-based interventions for patients with dysphagia and acquired communication disorders.
• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans to support patient recovery and rehabilitation.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical, nursing, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy colleagues.
• Provide education and support to patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and discharge planning processes.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you must have:
• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• HCPC registration and membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
• Previous experience working within adult acute Speech and Language Therapy services.
• Experience managing dysphagia and communication disorders within acute hospital settings.
• Experience working with patients in ITU or critical care environments.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and clinical reasoning skills.
• The ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
