On behalf of our Banking client, Procom is searching for a Data Scientist - Applied AI / Machine Learning (Python) for a 12-month role. This position is a hybrid position with 2 days onsite at our client’s Toronto office.

Data Scientist - Applied AI / Machine Learning (Python) - Job Description:

This role focuses on delivering value through AI-driven solutions, emphasizing hosted large language models (LLMs). The project involves designing, implementing, and optimizing intelligent systems using prompt engineering, orchestration, and model tuning techniques to solve complex business challenges.

Data Scientist - Applied AI / Machine Learning (Python) - Responsibilities:

• Design and deploy AI solutions leveraging hosted LLM platforms
• Develop, test, and optimize prompt strategies for model accuracy and relevance
• Build and maintain prompt pipelines, including chaining and response validation
• Evaluate and tune LLM outputs using structured evaluation frameworks
• Develop Python-based pipelines for data preprocessing and analysis
• Implement guardrails and versioning strategies for reliability and compliance
• Enhance solutions through retrieval augmentation and external data integration
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to operationalize LLM solutions
• Monitor and improve model performance based on real-world feedback

Data Scientist - Applied AI / Machine Learning (Python) - Mandatory Skills:

• 5–7 years of experience in data science, applied AI, or machine learning roles
• Strong expertise in prompt engineering and LLM evaluation techniques
• 5+ years of experience with Python for building data pipelines
• 5+ years of experience with large-scale structured and unstructured data
• Strong understanding of model limitations and responsible AI practices

Data Scientist - Applied AI / Machine Learning (Python) – Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Ability to translate business requirements into AI-driven solutions
• Previous Banking Experience
• Previous research experience in AI/ML
• Hands-on experience with hosted LLM platforms and APIs
• Experience delivering production-grade LLM or NLP-based solutions

Data Scientist - Applied AI / Machine Learning (Python) – Assignment Length:

This is a 12-month contract position with the possibility of extension or full-time employment.
