In this position, you deliver and collect mail on foot or by vehicle in a city area. You also maintain good relations with customers and have a general familiarity with postal laws, regulations, and products for your area. As a USPS Postal Carrier, you provide a critical service to your community by ensuring mail delivery during weekdays, weekends, and holidays with opportunities for promotion. Job Duties

  • Mail Preparation: Categorize, elevate, and maneuver substantial amounts of mail and packages to prepare for daily delivery.
  • Route Execution: Carry out the delivery of letters and parcels accurately within your designated area.
  • Collection: Retrieve or collect mail from customers along the assigned route.
  • Financial Transactions: Garner payments for outstanding postage fees related to delivery or other services.
  • Environment: Fulfill tasks in both indoor and outdoor environments, enduring changing weather conditions like rain, snow, cold, and heat.

USPS Postal Carriers are responsible for verifying delivery addresses, maintaining accurate route records, and ensuring the security and confidentiality of mail. They handle undeliverable items following proper procedures, communicate delays to supervisors, and provide customers with delivery status information. Professionals in this role maintain a professional appearance, adhere to strict schedules, and ensure compliance with USPS policies while managing time efficiently.

Requirements

  • Age: Must be 18 years old (or 16 with a high school diploma).
  • Driving History: A current state driver's license and a clear two-year U.S. driving history are mandatory.
  • Physical Ability: Adept at managing moderate to heavy loads and walking significant distances each day.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen, green card holder, or citizen of a U.S. territory.
  • Core Skills: Strong attention to detail, time management, and reliable customer service abilities. Candidates should demonstrate dependability, integrity, and the ability to work independently.
