Our client, a major player in the mining industry, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to oversee critical operations in **Indore, Madhya Pradesh, IN**. This role requires a deep understanding of rock mechanics, ground support design, and the geological complexities inherent in underground mining environments. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety and stability of mine excavations, optimizing mining methods from a geotechnical perspective, and providing expert advice to mine planning and operations teams. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in large-scale underground mining projects and a commitment to upholding the highest safety standards.
Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive geotechnical assessments and feasibility studies for new underground mining projects. Design and implement ground support systems (e.g., rock bolts, shotcrete, mesh) tailored to specific geological conditions. Monitor ground conditions in active mining areas using instrumentation and observational methods. Develop numerical models to simulate rock mass behavior and predict potential failure mechanisms. Analyze data from geotechnical investigations, including boreholes, laboratory tests, and in-situ testing. Provide expert technical guidance on mine design, layout, and sequencing to minimize geotechnical risks. Develop and implement seismic monitoring and management plans for underground mines. Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and recommendations for mine management. Liaise with mine ventilation engineers to ensure safe working conditions. Oversee the work of junior geotechnical engineers and technicians. Ensure compliance with all relevant mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines. Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures for geotechnical engineering in mining. Investigate and analyze ground-related incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with geologists and survey teams to integrate geological and survey data into geotechnical analyses. Participate in mine closure planning from a geotechnical perspective. Qualifications: Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field. A Ph.D. is a plus. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with at least 5 years focused on underground mining. Demonstrated expertise in rock mechanics, numerical modeling (e.g., FLAC, UDEC, Phase2), and ground support design. Experience with various underground mining methods (e.g., cut-and-fill, drift-and-fill, sublevel caving). Proficiency in geotechnical data analysis software and GIS tools. Strong understanding of geological mapping, borehole logging, and geostatistical analysis. Experience with seismic monitoring systems and data interpretation. Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in challenging underground environments and travel to remote mine sites. Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification is highly desirable. Knowledge of international mining standards and best practices. Leadership skills and experience in mentoring junior staff.
