Senior Agronomist - Sustainable Agriculture

Our client, a progressive leader in the agriculture and forestry sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Agronomist to drive innovation and sustainability in their operations based in **Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, IN**. This role is critical for optimizing crop production, implementing advanced agricultural techniques, and promoting environmentally sound farming practices. You will be responsible for conducting field research, analyzing soil and crop health data, and providing expert recommendations to farmers and operational teams. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of plant science, soil science, pest management, and sustainable agricultural methods, with a strong emphasis on tropical agriculture. This position requires excellent analytical skills, hands-on field experience, and the ability to communicate complex scientific information effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement agronomic strategies to enhance crop yield, quality, and sustainability. Conduct field trials and research on new crop varieties, fertilizers, and pest control methods. Analyze soil samples, crop health, and environmental data to diagnose issues and recommend solutions. Provide expert advice on crop management, irrigation, fertilization, and integrated pest management (IPM). Promote and implement sustainable agricultural practices, including organic farming, conservation tillage, and water management. Train and support farmers and agricultural staff on best agronomic practices and new technologies. Monitor agricultural trends, research findings, and regulatory changes relevant to the sector. Manage and maintain agricultural research facilities and equipment. Develop detailed reports on research findings, crop performance, and project outcomes. Collaborate with research institutions, government agencies, and industry partners. Ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations in all agricultural operations.

Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD in Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Science, or a closely related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in agronomy, with significant experience in tropical agriculture. Proven expertise in crop physiology, soil fertility management, and pest and disease control. Strong knowledge of sustainable and organic farming practices. Experience with field research design, data collection, and statistical analysis. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in using agricultural monitoring tools and software. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Hands-on experience in agricultural field operations is essential. Fluency in Malayalam and English is highly desirable.
