The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced crop management strategies, conducting in-depth soil analysis, and advising on best practices for yield enhancement and resource optimization. You will lead research initiatives to identify and trial new crop varieties, fertilizers, and pest control methods suited to the local climate and soil conditions. A key part of this role involves extensive fieldwork, collaborating closely with local farmers and agricultural communities to understand their challenges and provide practical, science-based solutions. You will also be involved in training and capacity building for junior staff and farm managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities include:

Designing and overseeing experimental plots to evaluate new agricultural technologies and methodologies. Monitoring crop health and diagnosing issues, recommending timely interventions. Managing irrigation systems and water resource management strategies for optimal crop growth. Analyzing soil samples to determine nutrient deficiencies and recommend appropriate fertilization programs. Evaluating the efficacy of pesticides and herbicides, promoting Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques. Collaborating with research institutions and government agricultural departments. Preparing detailed reports on crop performance, research findings, and project outcomes. Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting sustainable farming practices. Mentoring and guiding junior agronomists and field technicians. Staying abreast of the latest advancements in agricultural science and technology.

Qualifications

Master's or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related agricultural field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in agronomy, with a proven track record of success in crop production and management. Strong understanding of soil science, plant physiology, and pest/disease management. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Proficiency in data analysis software and agricultural modeling tools. Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Willingness to travel extensively within the region and undertake fieldwork in various conditions. Knowledge of local crops and farming systems in Odisha is a significant advantage.
