About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Civil Projects Engineer to join a growing Capital Projects team at a large-scale, world-class mining operation in Northern Ontario. This role is ideal for an experienced civil engineering professional who enjoys leading capital projects from concept through execution and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the Capital Projects Manager, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership and oversight for civil infrastructure projects and play a key role in supporting the site's long-term growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Capital Projects Manager and Project Engineering Superintendent with the execution of the capital projects portfolio, providing civil engineering support across engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
• Collaborate with and manage external engineering firms to complete detailed engineering packages.
• Lead work package execution throughout all project phases, including feasibility, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Resolve technical issues and support constructability reviews, value engineering initiatives, and optimization efforts.
• Review and approve civil engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and technical calculations.
• Provide civil engineering expertise across all capital projects and lead a team of civil engineers.
• In collaboration with the Construction Superintendent, develop and maintain scope definitions, work breakdown structures (WBS), execution plans, and high-level schedules.
• Coordinate interfaces between civil works and other disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, process, and environmental.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and internal engineering practices.
• Support the development of project estimates and preparation of Applications for Expenditure (AFEs).
• Collaborate with the procurement team to execute scopes of work, tender packages, technical bid evaluations, and general contract management activities.
• Identify project risks and opportunities that may impact budget or schedule and develop mitigation strategies.
• Observe the functionality of installed equipment or systems to identify hazards and determine the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
• Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures safely.
• Share and implement engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead the development and maintenance of project schedules aligned with business requirements.
• Partner with the Project Cost Controller to manage project costs, review forecasts, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions to maintain budget compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• P.Eng. designation is required.
• Minimum 10 years of experience delivering mining civil infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and other applicable codes and regulations.
• Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks, and other relevant design tools.
• Strong communication, presentation, and report-writing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Ability to develop innovative solutions and think strategically.
• Knowledge of mining and construction regulations.
• Strong understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
• Ability to prioritize competing demands and work effectively under pressure to meet project deadlines.
• Results-oriented with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Previous experience working at a remote mining site is considered an asset.
