Description
The Carderock Division of the Naval Sea Systems Command is now accepting applications from faculty members interested in fundamental science through applied and in-service engineering in maritime technology.
This 10-week summer opportunity is designed to allow participants to receive hands-on experience and learn state-of-the art science, technology, and other theory applications that can be incorporated into their teaching. Participants will collaborate closely with researchers at the Carderock Division, gaining valuable experience and insight. Faculty are then expected to transfer new knowledge and experience to their students and their academic institutions after the appointment, providing benefit to the academic community. The program also will help faculty pursue and secure future research funding at their home institutions and foster long-term collaborations with Navy researchers.
Participants will receive a stipend of $2,100/week. Participants may receive an allowance for inbound/outbound travel to the assigned location.
Carderock is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidates. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and appointments will be offered as qualified candidates are identified.
Nature of the Appointment
Participants will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, the DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a United States citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) at the time of application. While the program is open to LPRs, certain project assignments may be limited to U.S. citizens.
- Must have held a teaching or research position at a U.S. college or university during the 2025–2026 academic year and plan to continue in a faculty role during the 2026–2027 academic year.
