About the Opportunity
The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs analytical tests and procedures offered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques. The role requires technical ability and problem‑solving skills to perform all tests (both manual and automated) in the clinical and environmental laboratories. The technician performs laboratory tests with a network of steps and variables according to established protocols and works with little or no supervision in emergency and weekend/night situations. Responsibilities include operating computer‑integrated instruments and networked systems, using computerized information systems, and comparing test results to pre‑established criteria (reference intervals) to decide on reportability, exercising independent judgment. The position requires tact, sensitivity, and professional communication under stressful conditions, and maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct.
About You
- Graduate from an approved Medical Laboratory Technologist program
- Licensed with NSRMLS or eligible to obtain licensure
- Registered with CSMLS
- Able to work shift work, including weekends and holidays as required
- Willingness to travel when required
- Competency in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Access to reliable transportation; travel within 75 km for schedule coverage may be required
Hours
Permanent part‑time position; 45 hours biweekly
Compensation and Benefits
$33.20 – $42.47 hourly
Eligible for the benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long‑term disability, life insurance, and a defined benefit pension plan.
