Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Nurse Practitioner to join the Mental Health Division.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our five main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.
About Mental Health Division:
Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.
About the Role
The Nurse Practitioner role compliments the care provided by other health care professionals in a specific context of practice. Based with the Darebin Mental Health and Wellbeing Local (DMHWL) the Nurse Practitioner will draw on their specialist knowledge to enhance the service capability from the foundation of the Neami Collaborative Relational Practice (CRP).
The Nurse Practitioner supports the coordination, development and leadership of practice improvement initiatives that improve the outcomes of consumers, including, but not limited to assessment, identification of needs and implementation of better outcome strategies as well as developing linkages with primary care providers.
Face to face interaction and assessment is one of the primary focus of the NP role, including the gathering of collateral information, referral to other health care professionals, prescribing of medications, ordering of diagnostics, admitting and discharging of presenting mental health consumers within their scope of practice.
The role will also include collaboration across the services (Northern Health and Neami) with appropriate existing and evolving committees as well as communities of practice and participating in delivery of professional development to staff.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Appropriate qualifications and registration in Nursing
- Proven managerial/leadership expertise.
- Understanding of the Victorian public mental health sector.
- Staff management experience within a medium to large complex health service.
- A proven ability to develop and meet operational budgetary objectives using excellent written and verbal communication, consultation and influencing skills and sound judgement.
- Manages complex communications that involve understanding and responding to multiple key stakeholders.
