Accounting Manager
Location: Greater Toronto Area, ON

About the Opportunity
Our client, a growing organization within the real estate and financial services industry is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working across multiple entities.
Reporting to senior leadership, the successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day accounting functions for multiple companies, support financial reporting, supervise a junior accounting team member, and contribute to budgeting, cash flow management, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and working papers.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the integrity of financial records.
- Prepare monthly profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and internal financial controls.
Cash Flow & Financial Planning
- Monitor and forecast cash flow across multiple business entities and bank accounts.
- Prepare cash flow reports and assist with working capital management.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes while monitoring financial performance against budget.
- Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Oversee full-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Process vendor payments and customer invoices.
- Reconcile corporate credit card statements and bank accounts.
- Monitor mortgage, insurance, property tax, and other recurring payments.
- Assist with collections and payment tracking.
Leadership & Operations
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
- Review work for accuracy and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
- Assist in developing and improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with operations and leadership teams on financial reporting and business initiatives.
Audit & Compliance
- Prepare supporting documentation for year-end audits.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, tax filings, and corporate reporting obligations.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA is considered a strong asset.
Experience
- 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous experience within real estate, construction, property management, or a multi-entity organization is highly preferred.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and month-end close.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is considered an asset.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using accounting and ERP software.
- Knowledge of property management or construction accounting software is considered an asset.
