What you'll do
As an Accountable Auditor, you'll lead and execute your audit plan and deliverables, balancing both retrospective and forward-looking assurance while using data-driven techniques to maximise insight. Retaining oversight and accountability throughout the audit lifecycle, you'll ensure the team delivers audits within the plan, maintaining expected standards of quality, and ensuring all testing fulfils the agreed audit scope.
You'll also play a key role in people management, supporting recruitment, developing talent, and maximising team performance. Drawing on your wider knowledge of AI adoption, cyber readiness, ESG trust, ethical culture, and geopolitical exposure, you'll help inform Internal Audit's opinions and contribute valuable insights to support the bank's strategic objectives.
In addition, you’ll be:
- Acting as a valued business partner to relevant business management teams within your defined area of responsibility and to the management team of NatWest Markets N.V. and its holding company
- Building and maintaining a comprehensive risk profile for the portfolio, supporting the shift in audit’s role from hindsight to foresight
- Introducing and embedding continuous controls assurance across priority areas, including AI ethics, operational resilience, cloud security, and sustainability reporting
- Proactively engaging with other audit teams and establishing effective networks within the business and externally
- Supporting the Head of Audit in producing audit opinions that influence executive management to ensure risks are managed prudently within agreed risk appetite
- Demonstrating leadership and role‑model behaviours, setting high standards of excellence in business engagement, customer understanding, guidance, coaching, and personal development
- Adopting a continuous improvement approach to enhance productivity and efficiency
- Supporting the Head of Audit as deputy in matters relating to NatWest Markets N.V. and its holding company
The skills you'll need
We're looking for someone with robust management experience, supported by risk and internal audit expertise, preferably within the financial services industry. You must have a combination of Markets and Wholesale Banking product knowledge across Capital Markets, Currencies, Fixed Income Trading, Sales activities, and Lending together with a deep insight into the associated risks, controls, and end-to-end trade lifecycle, within a European regulatory environment.
You'll also need a thorough knowledge of the key risk and control frameworks relevant to the businesses, across all relevant financial and non-financial risks. Moreover, you must be able to assess and challenge control design and effectiveness across Markets activities key controls and processes, working closely with relevant Group and legal entity stakeholders.
In addition, you’ll need:
- An excellent understanding of risks and controls, and how both internal and external factors impact them
- The ability to effectively build and manage stakeholder relationships at a range of levels, while providing constructive challenge and influencing outcomes with confidence and clarity
- Leading and developing a diverse range of team members, supporting the identification of skills building opportunities
- A strong track record of leading and developing diverse teams, supporting the identification of skills-building opportunities
- Proven competence in delivering projects on time and within budget
