Role Description The Rodent Animal Care Taker is a full-time, on-site role located in Baltimore, MD. This position is responsible for daily care of rodent colonies, including feeding, watering, cage cleaning, and environmental enrichment in accordance with established protocols. The role includes monitoring animal health and behavior, reporting concerns to supervising staff, and assisting with routine husbandry and basic laboratory procedures. The care taker will maintain accurate records of animal care activities, follow biosecurity and sanitation guidelines, and help ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. The individual will work closely with research and veterinary personnel to support a safe, organized, and humane animal facility.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Animal Care and Pet Care skills, with an emphasis on humane handling and daily husbandry.
• Candidates should possess skills in Animal Health and Animal Work, including observing animals for signs of distress and accurately reporting findings.
• Candidates should possess basic Laboratory Skills relevant to animal facilities, such as maintaining clean workspaces and following safety procedures.
• Ability to follow written protocols, maintain accurate records, and adhere to biosecurity and sanitation standards.
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and comfort working in a research-oriented environment with rodents.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; prior experience in animal care, veterinary, or laboratory settings is preferred.
• Ability to lift and move cages and equipment, stand for extended periods, and work in PPE as required.
