Contract Role Upto 12 months
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Communications, a self-starter responsible for providing strategy for internal and corporate communications, as Metrolinx reshapes internal communications with an eye on delivering an exceptional employee engagement experience and meeting organizational goals.
In-Office Requirement – NON-HR: This role is an in‑office position based at our 97 Front Street location. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in‑person co‑creation, relationship‑building, and hands‑on partnership with leaders across the organization.
What will I be doing?
- Lead, develop and deploy communication plans and key messages through tactics such as events, presentations, articles, internal announcements, videos, etc.
- Responsible for producing quick, relevant, high quality, clean and creative content, both written and digital.
- Utilize analytics to shape and enhance employee communication strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and employee needs.
- Foster meaningful connections and communication pathways between employees at all levels, from frontline staff to C-suite executives, to create a cohesive workplace culture.
- Deliver communications strategy and products to build Metrolinx champions and brand ambassadors to help inform Metrolinx employees and contractors about key initiatives.
- Provides strategic counsel and maintains confidentiality about proposed new corporate policies, plans and programs while they are in development, as part of communication planning prior to announcements being made.
- Monitors media, social media, industry and corporate communications publications for coverage and trends to inform internal communications strategies.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills through effective event management and execution, ensuring seamless delivery of communication initiatives and engagement activities.
- Works collaboratively with Digital and Creative teams to elevate the corporate/ organizational KPI reporting, backed by data and user experience.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent. Basic graphic design skills
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in Communications, Political Science, Journalism or similar roles; experience working with different tools and digital platforms (intranet, design programs, video, etc.).
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills required.
- Ability and expertise in offering strategic solutions, with a data-driven approach, to address the evolving digital needs for employee engagement in the organization.
- Intermediate graphic design skills, script writing, and video production considered an asset.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities with various audiences (frontline staff to C-suite executives).
- Familiarity with measurement tools and techniques for evaluating communication effectiveness.
- Effective presentation and interpersonal skills to articulate and present advice, options and recommendations to senior management, executives, and business clients.
- Ability to communicate in French is an asset.
