Job Title: Legal Journalist

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and pitch articles covering relevant and timely legal stories.
• Gather leads through reliable sources, field visits, and by attending legal proceedings.
• Regularly go on the field to verify facts and conduct in-depth investigations.
• Write clear, accurate, and well-structured legal stories in an engaging journalistic style.
• Coordinate with photographers for spot photography and with designers/illustrators for visuals that support your stories.
• Follow up on published stories to ensure they generate the desired awareness and impact among readers and authorities.
• Stay updated with ongoing legal developments, court schedules, judgments, and policy changes.
• Build and maintain a network of legal contacts, including lawyers, court staff, and public officials.
• Ensure all reports meet the editorial standards and legal compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Law, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in legal or investigative journalism preferred.
• Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
• Ability to understand and simplify complex legal language for readers.
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours depending on court schedules and news breaks.
• Familiarity with media law and journalistic ethics.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
