BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises and directs the work of the Communications Department, overseeing the production of print and digital publications for the Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF). Manages the organization’s public relations, communications, advertising, and sponsorship revenue generation, and provides strategic guidance to the Executive Vice President (EVP).

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Serves as Public Information Officer for the Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF), which includes creating and editing news releases and correspondence (for print and electronic platforms). Advises the EVP on public relations/information matters.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements the communications and community relations program, as well as the organization’s branding and marketing strategy, in alignment with guidelines established by the MVF Board of Directors.
  • Develops and utilizes media outlets to enhance MVF and Montgomery Village image.
  • Meets with residents, advertisers and the general public.
  • Serves as staff liaison to the Communications, Election and Nominating committees and administers the MVF Board of Directors annual election process.
  • Attends monthly MVF Board of Directors meetings (in-person and virtual), records meeting minutes, and assists with the technical facilitation of virtual meetings.

Publications/Media:

  • Oversee all MVF publication and media operations, ensuring consistent, high-quality communication across all platforms. Maintains and develops content for printed and electronic communications (including the Village News, Recreation Guides, employee newsletter, website, social media, videos, handbooks, flyers, signs and brochures) ensuring copy and graphics are kept current, informative, in accordance with Board approved policies and procedures.
  • Attends, reports on, or coordinates coverage for MVF and other Village meetings or events.
  • Manages all aspects of advertising operations, including accounts receivable, billing, collections, design, printing, circulation, and website advertising.
  • Develop and implement advertising campaigns, promotional materials and media kits to increase Village News and website advertising revenue and expand advertising engagement and revenue. Responsible for coordination of event sponsorship solicitation.
  • Coordinate internal and external communications to support organizations visibility and community engagement.

Department:

  • Supervises and evaluates the work of communications staff, including the Senior Graphic Designer and Print and Digital Content Specialist. Recruits, interviews, select departmental staff. Establishes department training objectives.
  • Develops and administers the annual Communications Department operating and reserve budget. Administers assigned contracts which includes the website host.
  • Develops and administers departmental operating procedures ensuring that the department functions within established MVF Board policies.
  • Creates and manages the department’s strategic planning priorities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of journalism and public relations.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to tailor messaging and communication style to effectively engage diverse audiences, including residents, Board members, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong public relations skills and demonstrated ability to speak in public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the EVP, staff, committees, advertisers, and the general public.
  • Thorough knowledge of publication, design and website operations, specifically use of Adobe Creative Suite (PC platform) and Joomla (website).
  • Thorough knowledge of social media practices for business applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgetary and personnel procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing or related field; 3+ years of experience in public relations, community relations or related field; or any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of social medial strategy and content management; strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a similar work setting.
  • Experience in managing budgets and full-time career staff.
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization, paid advertising, and strategic content
