Summary: The Director of Design is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing MOI design initiatives, managing the regional design team, and driving departmental excellence through coaching, accountability, and performance management. This role defines and upholds clear standards of excellence aligned with MOI’s business objectives, ensuring consistency in design delivery, operational efficiency, and client experience.
The Director of Design partners cross-functionally with Sales, Project Management, and Operations to deliver high-quality, efficient, and profitable outcomes, while building a strong team culture rooted in growth, collaboration, and ownership.
Essential Functions:
- Leadership & Team Development – Lead, coach, and develop the design team while fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and engagement
- Operational Excellence & KPI Management – Oversee performance against key financial and operational metrics, ensuring efficiency and profitability
- Design Quality & Client Experience – Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, accurate, and professional design packages
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with Sales, Project Management, and Operations to drive aligned project execution
- Talent Acquisition & Development – Recruit, develop, and retain top design talent while building a strong pipeline
- Strategic Alignment & Execution – Align design initiatives with business goals and drive continuous improvement and innovation
Task Expectations:
- Oversee all MOI design initiatives and ensure alignment with defined Excellence Pillars
- Manage the regional design team to deliver high-quality, accurate, and efficient design packages
- Monitor team performance against financial, operational, and quality KPIs
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, workflows, and team effectiveness
- Conduct performance reviews tied to both individual growth and business outcomes
- Collaborate with Sales, PM, and Operations to ensure strong project execution and client experience
- Manage departmental budgets and align staffing with revenue forecasts
- Facilitate training programs to strengthen product knowledge, technical skills, and consulting capabilities
- Maintain a strong team culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and ownership

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience, with 8+ years of professional experience. Demonstrated ability to lead projects, influence teams, and drive performance is required.
Base Pay Range: $111,225 - $155,275 + company incentive

Travel:
Occasional regional travel to our offices located in Baltimore, DC, Richmond, Charlottesville, Roanoke, and Virginia Beach.
