Position Summary:

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in leading daily store operations to ensure excellent customer service, strong sales performance, and a safe, well-organized shopping environment. This role is hands-on and plays a key part in staff supervision, inventory control, merchandising execution, and maintaining operational standards across all departments. The Assistant Store Manager helps drive profitability while ensuring MivarMart’s commitment to fresh, local produce and everyday value is consistently delivered.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support hiring, training, scheduling, and day-to-day supervision of store staff (cashiers, stockers, and department associates).
• Assist in driving store performance including sales goals, margin control, shrink reduction, and expense awareness.
• Help manage inventory processes including stock replenishment, ordering support, receiving, and rotation of perishables.
• Ensure merchandising standards are met, including planogram execution, product presentation, and freshness of produce.
• Support customer service excellence by resolving issues, handling escalations, and maintaining a positive in-store experience.
• Monitor compliance with health, safety, and food handling regulations, ensuring a safe working environment.
• Assist in preparing operational reports and contribute to local promotions and marketing initiatives.
• Step in as acting manager when required during shifts or Store Manager absence.

Qualifications / Skills/ Requirements:

• Mandatory: 1–3 years of hands-on supervisory experience in a grocery store or supermarket (required for consideration).
• Experience supporting or managing store operations including sales, inventory, or shrink control.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
• Basic understanding of perishables, fresh produce handling, and retail operations is an asset.
• Comfortable using POS systems, scheduling tools, and inventory management systems.
• Ability to work flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must have valid government-issued ID and be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Work Environment / Schedule:

• Fast-paced retail environment with active involvement in daily store operations.
• Requires support during peak hours, deliveries, inventory counts, and staff supervision.
• Schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to ensure full store coverage.
