The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking a Quality Engineer to join our production facility in Kitchener. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer ensures customer satisfaction for all quality related matters. Working closely with Production, Paint, Process Engineering, Materials and Continuous Improvement, the Quality Engineer is a key player in both the launch of new products, and quality maintenance of our existing product lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the APQP process to ensure:
- Feasibility of the design and process to produce the product as specified.
- Address any quality issues, including GD&T, gauge design, testing requirements and timing, capability study requirements and timing, applied statistical methods, and Advanced Quality Plans (such as prototype, pre-launch, and production control plans, etc.).
- Recommend designation of KPC’s, KCC’s
- Support and participate in APQP activities and trials (such as packaging trials, paint/process trials, etc.) as required.
- Responsible for determining customer requirements on assigned programs and obtaining acceptance and limit samples. Responsible for communicating customer requirements and standards within the organization.
- Review customer, internal, and supplier rejections. Follow up on corrective and preventive actions and recommend course of action. Recommend acceptance or rejection.
- Responsible for preparing PPAP submissions on assigned programs.
- Review ECN’s for quality issues. Contact the customer for approval when necessary.
- Coordinate and participate in dimensional evaluation of parts using appropriate gauges and fixtures including SPC studies. Ensure that equipment is properly calibrated prior to use. Promptly report any items that are found to be out of calibration and coordinate corrective actions.
- Perform process capability and process performance (KCC) studies and data collection. Report results on the appropriate statistical charts.
- Train operators and cell leaders to perform in-process inspections. Participate in operator and cell leader training.
- Responsible for preparing to completion of all PSO functions on assigned programs.
- Responsible for the analyzing, documenting and responding to customer warranty issues.
- Travel to customer or supplier facilities as required. This could include domestic or international travel.
- Carryout other tasks as assigned by the Quality Manager or Quality Supervisor.
Our ideal candidate:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an automotive quality control role, plastic injection moulding preferred.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline or CQE
- Sound understanding of key quality & environmental management systems procedures
- Demonstrated experience in problem solving techniques, quality systems, APQP, statistical methods, control plans and PPAPs.
- Strong and effective interpersonal & communication skills
- Knowledge of blueprint reading, experience using measuring equipment such as Micro View, calipers, micrometers, force gages, pine gages, etc. requires.
- Technical expertise and ability to use Quality Tools such as SPC, Pareto analysis, fish-bone diagrams, gap analysis and process mapping for fact-based decision-making.
- Proficient skills in math, graphic arithmetic, mechanical reasoning, Excel, Word & Powerpoint.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
