Veterinary Assistant – Full Time
Clarendon / North Arlington, VA
We’re looking for a Veterinary Assistant who’s upbeat, motivated, and ready to be part of a fast-paced, team-driven hospital. If you like staying busy, learning new skills, and working with people who genuinely support each other, you’ll fit right in here.
We’re an AAHA-accredited, Fear Free certified practice, and we invest heavily in our team—including sponsoring Fear Free training and supporting those interested in tech school.
💰 Pay
- $21–$23/hour
🗓️ Schedule
- 3–4 day work week
- At least one 12-hour shift required
- Option to work three 12-hour shifts if preferred
- Rotating Saturdays: every other Saturday (7:30am–12:30pm)
- Closed Sundays
⏰ Hospital Hours
- Monday: 7:30am – 7:30pm
- Tuesday: 7:30am – 7:30pm
- Wednesday: 7:30am – 11:45am, 12:45pm – 7:30pm
- Thursday: 7:30am – 7:30pm
- Friday: 7:30am – 5:30pm
- Saturday: 7:30am – 12:30pm
- Sunday: Closed
- Weekly team training break Wednesdays from 11:45am–12:45pm
- What You’ll Be Doing
- Working in a 2 assistant : 1 doctor model
- One assistant focuses on appointments (history, scribing, client communication, checkout/finances)
- One assistant focuses on treatments
- Venipuncture and patient restraint (Fear Free approach)
- Running lab work and diagnostics
- Taking radiographs
- Supporting patient care from intake through discharge

- Experience with venipuncture, restraint, X-rays, and lab equipment
- Able to go over vaccines with clients, collect history and update medical records
- Fear Free certified (or willing to become certified — we’ll sponsor it)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills

- Provide Essential Patient Care: You'll be a key player in the health of our patients, assisting the medical team with hands-on care and ensuring every animal is treated with compassion and respect.
- Be the Go-To Support for the Medical Team: You'll be the backbone of the clinic, anticipating the needs of veterinarians and technicians to ensure a smooth, efficient, and collaborative workflow.
- Create a Positive Client Experience: You'll help create a seamless visit for our clients by assisting with scheduling, payments, and communications, always with a courteous and informative approach.

What You'll Bring To The Team
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
- Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset.
