Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Web Developer to join our Web Analytics team supporting inter-office web owners across a large portfolio of websites. The successful candidate will lead the implementation, automation, and customization of JavaScript tracking using the Matomo web analytics platform, build custom PHP/JavaScript tooling to streamline site tagging at scale, and serve as a trusted technical advisor to web owners integrating Matomo into their applications. This is a hands-on, customer-facing engineering role that combines deep front-end and server-side development with analytics enablement and consultative support.

Location: Springfield, Virginia (NCE work location)

Telework: 1 remote day per week

Key ResponsibilitiesMatomo Implementation & Automation

  • Automate JavaScript tag deployment across a large inventory of websites using the Matomo analytics application and custom PHP/JavaScript processes.
  • Design, build, and maintain custom Matomo tracking code, event tracking, custom dimensions, custom variables, and goal configurations tailored to each web owner's measurement needs.
  • Develop reusable tagging templates, snippets, and libraries that reduce manual effort and standardize analytics instrumentation across the enterprise.
  • Customize and optimize Matomo plugins, dashboards, and reports to meet stakeholder requirements and improve site performance insights.

Customer Engagement & Technical Consultation

  • Serve as the front-line technical point of contact for web owners on Matomo integration, custom function development, and analytics best practices.
  • Consult directly with web customers to gather requirements, recommend tracking strategies, and walk them through implementation of Matomo code and customized JavaScript functions.
  • Respond to site-specific questions from the user base and provide responsive, high-quality technical support.

Development & Engineering

  • Write clean, maintainable PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS supporting both Matomo customization and broader web application needs.
  • Build and maintain communication between websites and AWS-hosted web servers using PHP and JavaScript.
  • Create and manage workflows, forms, and modules supporting automation of business and intelligence dissemination processes.
  • Perform issue and problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution across the web stack.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Collaborate with designers, developers, web owners, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated analytics solutions.
  • Write and maintain clear documentation supporting websites, Matomo implementations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge bases and training material to enable web owners to self-serve where appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS.
  • Demonstrated experience developing for and deploying to AWS-hosted applications and websites.
  • Strong understanding of website-to-AWS web server communication patterns using PHP and JavaScript.
  • Experience with AWS services including S3 and EC2 web servers.
  • Experience with SQL, and MySQL.
  • Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex web and integration issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical web owners.

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Matomo (or comparable platforms such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or Piwik PRO), including custom tracking code, event tracking, and plugin customization.
  • Experience automating analytics tag deployment across many sites or properties.
  • Familiarity with tag management concepts and data layer design.
  • Experience writing technical documentation and customer-facing guidance.
  • Comfort working in a customer-facing, consultative role supporting internal web owners.

Pay: From $130,000.00 per year
