Job description

We are seeking a 100% remote, 1099 Addiction/Psychiatrist MD/DO to serve as a Medical Expert Reviewer for the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC).

Role Summary

Review denied treatment requests and render final medical determinations based on:

Medical Necessity
Experimental/Investigational status
Emergency

Reviews are specialty-driven, completed through a secure web-based portal, and do not involve direct patient care.

Training

One-on-one training for the first 3–5 cases
Flexible scheduling based on reviewer availability
Standardized templates provided

Requirements

Active medical license
Board Certified in Addiction and Psychiatry
Minimum 5 years post‑training experience
At least 24 hours/week of direct patient care
MD or DO
ASAM 5 Guidelines

Compensation (Per Case)

Medical Necessity – Standard: $250 (30–45 min, 5–7 days)
Medical Necessity – Expedited: $250 (45–60 min, 24 hrs)
Experimental/Investigational – Standard: $300 (1–2 hrs, 5–7 days)
Experimental/Investigational – Expedited: $400 (1–2 hrs, 24 hrs)

Volume varies based on need.
