Role & responsibilities

Pharmacy Operations Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency pharmacy services.
  • Ensure timely dispensing of medications with accuracy and adherence to prescription guidelines.
  • Monitor workflow efficiency and implement process improvements.
  • Maintain uninterrupted availability of essential drugs and consumables.

2. Inventory & Procurement Management

  • Plan and manage procurement of medicines, surgical items, and pharmacy consumables.
  • Maintain optimum stock levels and minimize stock-outs and expiries.
  • Monitor drug usage trends and forecast future requirements.
  • Conduct periodic stock audits and reconciliation.
  • Ensure proper storage conditions as per regulatory standards.

3. Regulatory & Compliance Management

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including:
  • Drug & Cosmetic Act regulations
  • Pharmacy Council norms
  • NABH / NABL standards (if applicable)
  • Maintain valid licenses for pharmacy operations.
  • Ensure proper documentation for narcotic and scheduled drugs.
  • Prepare for internal and external audits.

4. Clinical & Patient Safety Responsibilities

  • Promote rational drug use and medication safety practices.
  • Coordinate with doctors and nursing teams regarding medication protocols.
  • Monitor adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
  • Participate in Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee meetings.
  • Support implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs.

5. Team Management

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor pharmacy staff.
  • Plan manpower allocation and duty rosters.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and training programs.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs and quality standards.

6. Financial & Cost Control

  • Monitor pharmacy revenue and expenses.
  • Optimize drug procurement costs through vendor negotiation.
  • Analyze profitability of pharmacy operations.
  • Control wastage, pilferage, and expiries.

7. Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with pharmaceutical vendors and suppliers.
  • Evaluate vendor performance periodically.
  • Coordinate with clinical departments and hospital administration.
  • Ensure timely payments and vendor compliance documentation.

8. Quality Assurance

  • Implement pharmacy quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation as per NABH and hospital policies.
  • Conduct periodic quality checks and internal audits.
  • Ensure medication safety protocols are followed.

Preferred candidate profile

  • 1015 years of experience in hospital pharmacy operations.
  • Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals preferred.
  • B.Pharm / M.Pharm (Mandatory)
