Job Description: Data Center Technician SME (AI Curriculum Review)

Role Overview: This role serves as the technical reviewer for AI-generated educational content aligned to entry-level Data Center Technician and CompTIA A+/Network+ learner outcomes. The SME ensures that all AI-produced training materials are technically accurate, practical, and reflective of real-world, hands-on data center operations. This is strictly an accuracy and relevance review role, ensuring content supports early-career technicians preparing for operational support roles.
Primary Responsibilities
- AI Technical Audit: Review AI-generated courseware (video scripts, slide decks, assessments, and lab guides) to correct inaccuracies and ensure alignment with real-world technician tasks.
- Hands-On Task Validation: Validate that exercises reflect real-world responsibilities such as server racking, cable management, hardware replacement, basic switch configuration, and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
- Operational Alignment: Ensure curriculum reflects practical data center support tasks including ticketing workflows, incident documentation, escalation procedures, and preventive maintenance routines.
- Safety & Compliance Review: Verify accurate integration of safety best practices such as ESD handling, rack safety, fiber handling, and basic electrical precautions.
- Instructional Support: Provide clarifications to Instructional Designers to ensure complex concepts are explained in a learner-friendly manner appropriate for entry-level technicians.
Required Technical Expertise
- Hardware & Systems Support: Practical experience installing, troubleshooting, and replacing enterprise server components.
- Networking Fundamentals (Hands-On): Experience with structured cabling (Cat6, fiber basics), patch panel management, basic VLAN understanding, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Data Center Operations: Familiarity with rack layouts, power distribution basics (PDUs, redundant power supplies), airflow fundamentals, and monitoring hardware alerts.
- Documentation & Ticketing: Experience working with ITSM systems and documenting troubleshooting steps clearly.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: 4–6+ years of hands-on experience in a data center technician or infrastructure support role.
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Electronics, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Certifications (Preferred): CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+.
- Learner Alignment Awareness: Must understand that the target audience is entry-level or early-career technicians preparing for foundational IT and networking roles.
- Soft Skills: Strong technical writing ability and the capability to simplify AI-generated explanations into clear, step-by-step technician-level guidance.
