Enhanced Care Health and Wellness Manager (ECHWM) reports to the General Manager and works in partnership with the Health and Wellness Manager (HWM) and is responsible for providing oversight of the Enhanced Care Area and supporting in partnership with the HWM for the Independent Living residents, direction to the nursing team in regards to the overall day-to-day delivery of healthcare operations, ensuring that the healthcare services comply with the Retirement Homes Act (RHA) and other relevant legislation.

The ECHWM Leads dementia care practices within the community by promoting a person-centered, evidence-based approach that supports dignity, safety, and quality of life. Ensures staff are trained to recognize and appropriately respond to responsive behaviours, cognitive changes, and communication barriers, with a focus on non-pharmacological interventions and de-escalation techniques. Demonstrates strong clinical judgment and emotional intelligence, while supporting families through cognitive decline with empathy and clarity, in alignment with best practices and regulatory standards

Wage Rate

The starting annual salary is $65,000.

Responsibilities

Operations & Clinical Leadership

  • Oversee the delivery of high‑quality, person‑centred Enhanced Care Area (ECA) services aligned with best practices in dementia care and supportive living.
  • Collaborate with the Health and Wellness Manager to deliver innovative, purposeful Enhanced Care services 24/7
  • Maintain and oversee individualized Resident Care Plans, ensuring regular reviews and appropriate interventions
  • Act as the Enhanced Care subject‑matter expert during tours, family meetings, and community outreach initiatives
  • Lead care conferences and communicate proactively with residents and families
  • Monitor incidents and behavioural changes, directing appropriate follow‑up and support
  • Maintain strong relationships with hospitals, Ontario Health at Home, Public Health, and community partners
  • Ensure full compliance with RHRA legislation and all regulatory standards
  • Promotes the vision, mission, values, and the Resident Bill of Rights,
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned

Team Leadership & Administration

  • Recruit, onboard, coach, and manage Enhanced Care team Members with support and partnership of HWM
  • Conduct performance reviews and support progressive discipline where required
  • Lead orientation, ongoing education, and mandatory certifications
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful team culture
  • Participate in the Manager‑on‑Duty rotation as required
  • Model ethical leadership, professionalism and strong clinical judgment at all times

Business Planning & Monitoring

  • Contribute to annual business planning, budgeting, and operational reviews
  • Monitor departmental performance, resources, and staffing models
  • Support revenue‑generating initiatives and program innovation within the ECA
  • Track quality indicators and outcomes to support continuous improvement

Health & Safety/ IPAC

  • Support emergency preparedness, drills, and response protocols
  • Partner with the Director of Wellness to ensure compliance with IPAC standards
  • Collaborate with Public Health during outbreaks
  • Promote safe work practices for community members, team members, and visitors
  • Serves as the Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator for the community,

Qualifications

  • Current registration and in good standing as a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario,
  • 3 – 5 years of leadership roles in the senior housing industry,
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals living with dementia, including complex behaviours
  • Dementia‑related certifications (GPA, PIECES, DementiAbility) are considered an asset
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certificate,
  • Demonstrated experience with medication administration (if medications provided),
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office,
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Retirement Homes Act and other applicable legislation,
  • Familiar with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act,
  • Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors,
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a budget,
  • Experience in team leadership, performance management, and staff development,
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the Nursing practices and nursing diagnosis,
  • Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices, and procedures as required by the College of Nurses,
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB results in less than 6 months, evidence of flu shot, and must be able to provide three work references
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends as needed
