Job Description

L’Arche Greater Washington, D.C. is an inter-denominational Christian community of people with and without intellectual disabilities who share their lives together. L’Arche is seeking a registered licensed practical nurse licensed in Washington, D.C. to monitor the health care of the two-three core people and provide oversight of nursing services in one home. The ideal candidate will have experience working with people who have intellectual disabilities and familiarity with D.C.’s Department on Disability Services (DDS). A successful candidate would be detail oriented, have a passion for community-based care, and be able to provide oversight in a professional and personable manner.

Reports to: Director of Human Services/Registered Nurse

Qualifications

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in D.C., with current CPR and health certificate.
  • Familiarity with, or ability to learn, D.C. Board of Nursing (BON) and Department on Disability Services (DDS) regulations as related to people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Familiarity with policies and procedures pertaining to the Trained Medication Employees (TME) as developed by the D.C. Board of Nursing (BON).

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee Healthcare for Core People

  • Collaborate with assistants, providers, pharmacists, and families to address medical needs
  • Complete health assessments and ensure follow-up on all health-related referral
  • Maintain up-to-date medical records, including visit summaries, labs, referrals, and protocols
  • Observe one routine per week and provide feedback on medical care and practices
  • Attend medical appointments, and service meetings as needed.
  • Respond to nursing notifications on a rotating schedule to provide PRN approvals and support

Medication Management and TME Program

  • Oversee medication changes in EMAR system
  • Manage monthly medication changes and review MARs/POS for accuracy
  • Ensure nurse administers the first dose of all new medications

Training for Assistants

  • Train new assistants, annually and as needed, in delegated nursing tasks, Health Care Management Plans, and medical protocols
  • Oversee development and implementation of care protocols (falls, meals, seizures, etc.)

Professional Training and Quality Assurance Coordination

  • Ensure compliance with DDS, DC BON, Department of Health, and other applicable regulations
  • Collaborate with leadership on staffing needs and adjustments
  • Work with the Quality Improvement team to enhance medical care systems and policies

Other duties as assigned.
