Role Overview:

We are seeking passionate and qualified School Counsellor to join our IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). The counsellor plays a key role in fostering students’ social, emotional, and personal development, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. The role is closely connected to the PSPE framework in the PYP and to whole-school well-being practices.

Key Responsibilities

Student Well-being and Emotional Support

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students’ emotional, social and behavioural development. for academic, social & emotional concerns.
  • Promote mental health awareness, resilience & well-being across the school community.
  • Identify and support students needing requiring additional support and coordinate intervention strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical counselling standards.

Academic Guidance

  • Support students in goal setting, study skills and time management.
  • Assist with subject selection aligned to students’ strength and IB Pathways.
  • Collaborate with teachers to monitor students’ progress and engagement.

PSPE & Well-being Education

  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of PSPE (Personal, Social and Physical Education) in the PYP, with a focus on:

o Relationships and social skills

o Emotional awareness and regulation

o Identity and personal development

  • Support the development and implementation of well-being programmes across PYP and MYP.
  • Facilitate grade appropriate workshops and sessions on topics such as friendships, resilience, self-management, and digital well-being.

IB Programme Alignment

  • Embed IB Learner’s profile attributes (e.g. communicator, thinker, principled) in counselling practices
  • Support transition across IB programmes (PYP MYP) Support a holistic
  • Contribute to the school’s holistic education approach.
  • Support a holistic, inquiry-based approach to student development.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and internationally minded school culture.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with teachers to support student well-being within the classroom.
  • Provide guidance and strategies to staff to address social-emotional needs effectively.
  • Engage with parents/guardians to support students’ development and well-being.
  • Contribute actively to team meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Foster curiosity, collaboration, and creativity among young learners.
  • Collaborate with teachers, coordinators and leadership to identify & support students learning towards ensuring a holistic learning experience.
  • Engage with parents/guardians regarding students’ development and wellbeing.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Actively participate in planning meetings, training, and school events.

Safeguarding and compliance

  • Actively support child protection and safeguarding policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of counselling sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with school and IB standards

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Counselling or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Certificate/license in school counselling (Preferred)
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in an IB or international school environment (Advantage)
  • Strong knowledge of IB framework & philosophy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Proficient in Educational Technology.
