Job Summary The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing the hospital pharmacy operations, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant medication management. This role includes supervision of pharmacy staff, inventory control, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with clinical teams to optimize patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy Operations
- Manage daily pharmacy operations (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services)
- Ensure accurate dispensing of medications as per prescriptions
- Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
- Maintain optimal stock levels of medicines and consumables
- Monitor expiry dates, storage conditions, and stock rotation
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for procurement
- Ensure availability of critical and life-saving drugs
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and applicable pharmacy regulations
- Maintain required licenses and documentation
- Ensure adherence to NABH/JCI standards (if applicable)
- Conduct regular audits and inspections
Team Management
- Supervise pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, and support staff
- Prepare duty rosters and manage shift schedules
- Train staff on protocols, drug safety, and customer service
Clinical Coordination
- Collaborate with doctors and nursing staff for medication safety
- Support antimicrobial stewardship and formulary management
- Monitor adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medication errors
Financial & Billing Oversight
- Monitor pharmacy revenue, billing accuracy, and cost control
- Analyze consumption patterns and optimize procurement
- Reduce wastage and pilferage
Quality & Patient Safety
- Ensure proper storage (temperature control, cold chain maintenance)
- Implement medication safety practices
- Educate patients on drug usage when required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) / Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)
- Registered Pharmacist with State Pharmacy Council
Experience
- 10 years of experience in hospital pharmacy
- Prior experience in a supervisory/managerial role preferred
