The Role: Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

We are seeking a strong Backend Engineer to lead development of the core product infrastructure.

The backend powers REST APIs serving iOS, Android, and Web frontends. You will integrate with cryptocurrency wallet providers, banking partners, authentication services, ledger systems, and payment rails.

This is a complex financial services system handling real money at international scale, with non-trivial compliance, security, and performance requirements.

Current Stack:

Python (FastAPI) monolith

Postgres

Redis

AWS

Open to introducing Rust and/or Go for performance-critical services as the system evolves.

You will work directly with technical founders to set engineering standards and build a highly performant, secure, and reliable backend. This role has clear growth potential into Backend Lead or broader Engineering Leadership as the company scales.

What You’ll Own

Backend architecture and API design

Integration with crypto wallets and banking service providers

Ledgering and payment orchestration systems

Anti-Fraud and AML-related workflows

Security, reliability, and performance at scale

Cloud infrastructure and production deployments

Required Experience

5+ years building and shipping backend applications in Python, Go, or Rust

Experience at banking, credit card, crypto, remittance, or lending startups

True fintech building experience (not maintaining a small piece of a large legacy system)

Hands-on experience with:

Anti-Fraud systems

AML (Anti-Money Laundering)

Ledgering systems

Payments orchestration

Strong experience with Postgres, Redis, AWS

Experience in financial technology, payments, or stablecoins

Nice to Have

Full-stack capability and ability to flex across the stack

Experience building for emerging markets

Strong systems-thinking mindset

Experience working in early-stage, high-ownership environments
