Job Description:

As essential contributors to the guest experience and the behind‑the‑scenes operations that keep Cyclone Athletics running smoothly, our custodial team plays a vital role in maintaining welcoming, high‑quality facilities.

The Iowa State University Athletics Department is seeking applicants for a full‑time Custodian I to join our facilities team in providing outstanding cleaning services that contribute to a positive guest and student‑athlete experience. The successful candidates will be detail and quality focused, reliable, able to communicate well, able to work independently to get the job done right, and courteous to patrons, students, and coworkers.

Our full-time custodians are eligible for ISU's comprehensive benefits package which begins on your first day of work, including healthcare, dental, retirement, paid time off, etc.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Additionally, this position must be available to work at all home football games and other occasional events such as concerts.

Location

This position will work across multiple Athletics Department facilities as needed (initial building assignments will likely be Sukup Basketball Complex, Southeast End Zone and Cyclone Sports Complex).

What you’ll do

• Perform general cleaning in all areas of assigned buildings.

• Maintain floor areas such as vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing.

• Clean, disinfect and polish bathrooms, locker room and dressing room surfaces and fixtures.

• Operate high pressure, water-cleaning apparatus to clean and disinfect rug runners, showers, bathrooms.

• Clean glass surfaces, doors, ceilings, and walls.

• Restock disposable items such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.

• Collect and remove trash throughout the interior and exterior of buildings.

• Support events by maintaining restrooms and upkeep during live events and assist with post-event cleanup.

• Help maintain inventory of supplies, and prepare records as directed.

The position involves occasional use of a ladder and/or working on stairways to clean surfaces that involves heights, extended periods working on your feet on hard surfaces, and the ability to occasionally work in outside weather conditions for assigned facilities or events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior custodial, janitorial, or commercial cleaning experience
  • Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment
  • Experience providing custodial services and customer service during large live events.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
