Director, Placement & Carrier Relations

About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and growing insurance brokerage, is looking for a senior commercial insurance professional to shape their national placement approach as Director, Placement & Carrier Relations. This role sets the direction for how complex and large commercial risks get marketed and placed across the country, and serves as a key link between the brokerage's regional teams and its carrier partners.
What You'll Bring
- 7+ years in commercial insurance marketing/placement, with exposure to complex accounts
- Strong track record negotiating with insurers to secure competitive terms
- Solid understanding of commercial products, underwriting, and market dynamics
- Established relationships across the carrier market
- Experience leading or supporting placement strategy at a national or multi-region level
- Level 2 Insurance Broker License required; CIP or CRM preferred or in progress
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to break down complex coverage and market issues for internal audiences
- High attention to detail with a strong compliance mindset
What You'll Do
- Set and drive the national approach to commercial marketing and placement
- Build consistent standards for submission quality and insurer engagement across regions
- Advise on market strategy, carrier selection, and negotiation approach for complex placements
- Build and maintain carrier relationships at a national level
- Support Account Executives with hard-to-place or large commercial risks
- Coach the broader team on submission quality and insurer expectations
- Help negotiate terms, pricing, and limits to land the best outcomes for clients
- Track market shifts — capacity, pricing, emerging risk — and share intel across the business
- Support specialized program placements alongside program leadership
- Ensure all placement activity meets regulatory and internal compliance standards
- Work closely with Account Executives, regional leaders, and senior management on execution
- Act as the go-to expert internally on placement and marketing strategy
- Mentor team members on carrier relationships and negotiation
