Data Engineer Lead – Snowflake Migration

Location: Mississauga, ON (4 days onsite)

Duration: 12-Month Contract

Rate: $80–99/hr INC

Start: ASAP

Overview

We are seeking a Data Engineer Lead to support a large-scale migration of data engineering and reporting solutions from SAS to a Snowflake cloud environment. This role sits within a Data & AI team and focuses on designing migration strategies, building robust data pipelines, and enabling scalable analytics in a modern cloud ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data migration strategies from legacy/on-prem systems to Snowflake
  • Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines (structured and unstructured data)
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformations
  • Implement data quality, governance, monitoring, and observability frameworks
  • Collaborate with Data Architects and BI teams to define data models
  • Structure data to enable self-service analytics and reporting
  • Support CI/CD processes and deployment best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in SQL and Python
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake (stored procedures, dbt transformations, task graphs, access management, data quality)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience with ETL tools (dbt, Airflow, Talend, or similar)
  • Experience structuring data for BI tools (Tableau or similar)
  • Strong analytical, collaboration, and time management skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Insurance or Actuarial environments
  • Familiarity with claims or policy data
  • Exposure to Spark, Hadoop, or big data frameworks

Interview Process

  • Online coding assessment (45 mins)
  • Architecture interview (virtual, scenario-based)
  • Onsite coding assessment (2–2.5 hours)
  • Final leadership interview
