Job Description
Harrison Pensa is actively recruiting a permanent, full-time Commercial Litigation Paralegal. We are looking for a self-driven individual who has a high attention to detail that will be successful in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Handle Small Claims Court Litigation, including settlement conferences, motions, and trials;
- Prepare drafting of pleadings, affidavits, court forms, memos, etc.;
- Research and interpret legal procedures, statutes, and regulations applicable to practice area;
- Work on completion of Canada Small Business Financing Act claims on behalf of clients with direction and assistance from other team members;
- Ability to produce high quality work under strict timelines and limitation periods;
- Arrange for service and filing of court documents;
- Perform administrative duties, including preparing/drafting correspondence, electronic and paper filing, entering dockets, preparation of accounts, etc.;
- Maintain the day-to-day schedule and operations for the lawyer(s) to whom they report including scheduling appointments, meetings and managing calendar;
- Other duties and special projects, as required.
The successful candidate ideally has the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma from an accredited Paralegal Program;
- 3-5 years’ experience as Paralegal or Law Clerk is required;
- Licensed and in Good Standing with The Law Society of Ontario;
- Understanding of Civil Litigation processes including the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and different Regional Practice Directions;
- Excellent organizational, attention to detail and time-management skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced environment, adjusts to changing priorities, and multi-tasking skills;
- Ability to work as a team player and independently;
- Efficient self-starter and quick learner;
- Courteous, client focused and professional attitude;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Kofax and Legal Industry Software.
We offer a salary commensurate with experience and a collegial environment.
The expected compensation range for this role is between $52,000 and $60,000.
