Job Summary
The Transportation Executive is responsible for managing container movement to and from the Inland Container Depot (ICD), ensuring timely pickup, delivery, and coordination with transporters, drivers, customs, and internal teams. The role focuses on efficient fleet utilization, cost control, and adherence to compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute transportation of containers (import & export) between ICD, ports, CFS, and customer locations.
- Coordinate with transport vendors, fleet owners, and drivers for vehicle placement.
- Arrange empty container pickup and loaded container movement as per schedule.
- Ensure timely gate-in and gate-out at ICD to avoid detention/demurrage.
- Liaise with ICD authorities, customs, and warehouse teams for smooth operations.
- Monitor vehicle movement and provide real-time updates to internal teams and clients.
- Verify transport documents such as:
- Delivery Orders
- E-Way Bills
- Transport Challans
- Gate passes
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (RTO norms, safety, permits).
- Track and control transportation costs, negotiate with vendors where required.
- Handle issues such as delays, breakdowns, and route deviations proactively.
- Maintain records of trips, vehicle utilization, and transporter performance.
- Support billing team with transport invoices and cost sheets.
Key Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge of ICD operations and container transportation
- Understanding of port, CFS, and customs procedures
- Vendor and fleet management skills
- Route planning and cost optimization
- Problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Good communication and coordination skills
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and logistics software
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree (Logistics / Supply Chain / Commerce preferred)
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in transportation/logistics operations
- Experience in ICD, CFS, or container movement is highly preferred
Preferred Knowledge:
- Knowledge of local transport unions and vendor network
- Familiarity with E-Way Bill system and GST compliance
- Experience in handling containerized cargo (FCL/LCL)
