Job description

Gritter Francona is looking for a Scriptwriter that will be responsible for researching, developing, and writing engaging, evidence-based scripts for animated educational videos supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) National Center for PTSD. The role transforms scientific evidence, clinical protocols, and subject matter expert (SME) input into clear, accurate, and accessible narratives that educate Veterans, trauma survivors, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the general public about trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), evidence-based treatments, and co-occurring conditions.

Working collaboratively with project managers, clinicians, SMEs, instructional designers, and production staff, the Scriptwriter develops compelling stories, dialogue, narration, and visual direction that communicate complex behavioral health concepts in plain language. Scripts must maintain a serious yet hopeful tone, encourage treatment engagement, and reflect the National Center for PTSD's commitment to scientific integrity, accessibility, and sensitivity to the diverse experiences of individuals affected by trauma.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and revise scripts for animated educational videos that communicate evidence-based information related to trauma, PTSD, effective treatments, and co-occurring conditions
  • Translate scientific literature, clinical protocols, and technical information into clear, accurate, and engaging scripts using plain language principles appropriate for public audiences
  • Develop storylines, dialogue, narration, scene descriptions, and visual cues that effectively communicate educational content while maintaining audience engagement
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), clinicians, project managers, Government stakeholders, and production teams to ensure scripts accurately reflect current clinical evidence and approved treatment guidance
  • Ensure all scripts maintain a serious, compassionate, and hopeful tone that encourages treatment engagement while avoiding stigmatizing or triggering language
  • Develop scripts that are culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and inclusive of diverse populations and experiences
  • Incorporate Government feedback and stakeholder comments throughout multiple review and approval cycles
  • Coordinate with storyboard artists, animators, voice talent, and production staff to ensure scripts support effective visual storytelling and animation production
  • Ensure scripts are appropriately structured for animation timing, pacing, narration, and visual transitions
  • Prepare supporting documentation, script revisions, production notes, and version control records as required
  • Ensure written products comply with applicable Federal plain language guidance, accessibility standards, and project-specific quality requirements
  • Support educational outreach initiatives by developing content suitable for digital media, public awareness campaigns, and other communication platforms as directed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Creative Writing, Media Studies, Public Health, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience writing scripts or educational content relevant to the requirements of this task order
  • Demonstrated experience producing scripts for video, animation, multimedia, or other educational communication products

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability
