Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree from an accredited college/university required in School Counseling.
License/Certification
- 2702: School Counselor Standard Certificate
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Knowledge of the American School Counselor Association National Model
- Understanding of academic, social/emotional, and college/career domains
- Experience providing short-term, solution-focused counseling and crisis intervention
- Ability to coordinate referrals and collaborate with families, staff, and community agencies
- Strong skills in data analysis and caseload progress monitoring to inform counseling practices and improve student outcomes
- Experience supporting college and career readiness, including postsecondary planning and financial aid processes
- Knowledge of MTSS, I&RS, and 504 processes, including case management responsibilities
- Understanding of adolescent development, mental health needs, and trauma-informed practices
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of the American School Counselor Association
- Proficiency with student information systems and counseling-related technology tools
- Commitment to equity, access, and advocacy for all students
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth
- Possess a valid New Jersey's Driver's License
- Pass the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure process
- Pass the required criminal history background check
- Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
Responsibilities
- Implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association National Model to support academic, social/emotional, and college/career development.
- Deliver direct student services, including individual counseling, small groups, and classroom instruction focused on academic success, social/emotional learning, and postsecondary readiness.
- Provide indirect student services through consultation, collaboration, and referrals to support student achievement and well-being.
- Assist students with academic planning, course selection, and goal setting to ensure progress toward graduation per New Jersey Department of Education requirements.
- Guide students in college and career readiness, including career exploration, postsecondary planning, and financial aid awareness.
- Provide crisis intervention, short-term solutions-focused counseling, and referrals as needed in collaboration with families, staff, and community providers.
- Analyze student data (attendance, achievement, behavior) to identify needs, inform interventions, improve student outcomes, and close opportunity and achievement gaps.
- Participate in and contribute to multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and I&RS teams to address student needs.
- Serve as 504 case manager by coordinating plans, monitoring accommodations, and collaborating with staff, families, and outside providers.
- Collaborate with families, staff, and community stakeholders to remove barriers and promote equitable access to opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with legal, ethical, and district requirements.
