Up Top Acres is an urban farming company managing gardens and farms across office buildings in the DC metro area. We grow food where people work, connecting building tenants to the source of their food and creating green space in the heart of the city.

Job Description

We're looking for a part-time farmer to join our DMV Farm Team for the second half of the 2026 growing season, with potential for a full-time position in 2027.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be responsible for maintenance and harvest at 3 to 6 on-ground and rooftop gardens across the DMV and provide greenroof maintenance support (dependent on your availability). This role drops you into an active season, so being comfortable working independently and picking things up quickly is essential.

Day-to-day Work Includes

General crop and garden maintenance (irrigation systems, pest management, weeding)
Harvesting produce and distribution to the building or our nonprofit partners
Monitoring plant health and flagging issues as needed
Completing site visit forms after each garden visit
Green roof maintenance support (availability dependent)

What We're Looking For

Prior hands-on farming or gardening experience is necessary
Ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly mid-season
Comfortable working both collaboratively with the UTA team and independently at sites
Able to commute between sites by e-bike around the city (bike provided by Up Top Acres)
Comfortable with early mornings and working outdoors in summer and fall conditions, including heat and occasional rain
Reliable, self-directed, and attentive to detail
Able to perform physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, and carrying
Excellent time and task management skills

The Details

Part-time, 10 to 20 hours per week, depending on availability and site needs (Tuesday-Friday availability is ideal)
August through mid-November 2026
Strong consideration for a full-time hire in 2027
Pay: $30+ per hour, depending on experience

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
