Job title: Assistant Professor (Research) Centre for Health Systems Design and Management (CHSDM) Goa Institute of Management (GIM) About the Centre The Centre for Health Systems Design and Management (CHSDM) at the Goa Institute of Management is dedicated to advancing research, capacity-building, and partnerships to strengthen health systems in India and comparable contexts. The Centre works at the intersection of healthcare management, policy, and systems thinking to support evidenceinformed decision-making and innovation in health systems design. Position Summary The Assistant Professor (Research) will strengthen CHSDM's research portfolio through independent research leadership, grant development, and capacity-building initiatives. This role is suited for an enthusiastic and self-motivated researcher with expertise in health systems research and a career focus on health policy, health systems strengthening, or healthcare management. The incumbent will lead research projects on Centre priorities, develop competitive grant applications, design capacity-building programmes, and enhance the Centre's standing in the health systems field through publications and strategic partnerships.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Research Design & Implementation
- Lead independent research projects in health systems, health policy, or related areas
- Design and execute rigorous research studies using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods
- Publish research findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
- Present research at national and international conferences
- Mentor junior researchers, research associates, and students
- Contribute to the Centre's research agenda and strategic priorities
2. Grant Development & Fundraising
- Identify and pursue appropriate funding opportunities
- Lead the development of competitive grant applications and research proposals
- Serve as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on research projects
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting obligations
- Build relationships with funding partners
3. Knowledge Translation & Policy Engagement
- Develop policy briefs, working papers, and technical reports for policy and practice audiences
- Engage with government, industry, and civil society stakeholders
- Translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations
- Contribute to Centre communication outputs and thought leadership
- Organize and participate in policy dialogues, seminars, and dissemination events
4. Capacity Building & Programme Development
- Develop and deliver training programmes, workshops, and courses in health systems research
- Contribute to the development of MOOCs or online learning modules in health systems management, health policy, or related areas
- Support student supervision and mentorship
- Build capacity of government officials, practitioners, and researchers
- Design innovative capacity-building initiatives aligned with Centre priorities
5. Partnership Development & Representation
- Build and nurture partnerships with government health departments, academic institutions, and industry partners
- Represent the Centre at research networks, consortia, and policy platforms
- Contribute to collaborative research initiatives
- Enhance the Centre's visibility and reputation in the health systems community
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines with First Class or equivalent (in terms of grades, etc.) at the preceding degree: o Public Health/ Health Policy and Systems Research/ Health Economics/ Healthcare Management/ Epidemiology/Development Studies/Social Sciences (with health focus) /Related fields
- Prior research experience with a publication record in areas such as: o Healthcare financing and economics /AI in Health, Digital health and health innovation /Primary health care/ Climate and Health/ Implementation research in health systems/ Related fields Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in grant writing and securing research funding
- Experience working with government health departments or policy institutions
- Knowledge of Indian health systems and policy landscape
- Experience in capacity building, training, or teaching
- Experience in policy engagement and knowledge translation
- Track record of stakeholder engagement and partnership building What We Offer
