Job Description
We are looking for a Team Lead / Assistant Manager – Medical Coding to supervise daily coding operations, manage team performance, and ensure delivery of high-quality coding services for US Healthcare clients. This role acts as the first line of leadership, supporting coders, monitoring productivity, and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and client requirements.
The ideal candidate should have strong coding expertise, leadership capabilities, and experience managing teams in a fast-paced healthcare revenue cycle management environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Management
- Lead and supervise a team of medical coders across various specialties.
- Allocate daily work assignments and manage coding queues.
- Monitor team attendance, productivity, and performance.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and team huddles.
- Support employee engagement and motivation initiatives.
Operational Delivery
- Ensure timely completion of coding assignments within defined turnaround times (TAT).
- Monitor daily production targets and workload distribution.
- Manage queue backlogs and prioritize urgent assignments.
- Ensure adherence to client-specific coding guidelines and service level agreements (SLAs).
Quality Assurance
- Conduct first-level quality reviews and coding validations.
- Identify coding errors and provide immediate feedback.
- Work closely with Quality Auditors to improve coding accuracy.
- Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Training & Mentoring
- Mentor junior and newly hired coders.
- Assist in onboarding and training activities.
- Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions on coding updates and best practices.
- Support certification preparation and skill development programs.
Client & Physician Support
- Address coding-related queries from internal stakeholders.
- Support resolution of client escalations and operational issues.
- Clarify documentation requirements when necessary.
- Maintain effective communication with management and support teams.
Reporting & Performance Tracking
- Maintain daily productivity and quality dashboards.
- Generate operational reports and performance summaries.
- Track team KPIs and identify improvement opportunities.
- Escalate risks and operational challenges to management.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and client-specific regulations.
- Promote adherence to organizational policies and coding standards.
- Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

Experience Required
- 6–10 years of experience in Medical Coding.
- Minimum 2–3 years of team handling experience.
- Strong understanding of US Healthcare coding guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Experience working across multiple coding specialties is preferred.
