We are currently seeking Veterinary Assistants and licensed Veterinary Technicians to join our team.
Pay is based on experience and licensed versus not.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for high quality specialized veterinary care, excellent communication/organizational skills, ability to critically think in challenging situations, and the ability to adapt and apply new protocols and standards of procedure.
Specific duties include but are not limited to (based on experience and licensure):
- Develop analgesic and anesthetic protocols for orthopedic patients, make adjustments both intra- and postoperatively as needed for patient comfort and safety
- Calculation of analgesic and anesthetic drugs, CRI calculations, sterile technique, patient preparation for surgery, and operating room preparation
- Anesthesia induction, intubation, monitoring, and maintenance of anesthesia, record keeping, and medication knowledge for surgical patients and patients undergoing advanced imaging and procedures
- Log and track controlled drug use, maintain up to date legal documentation of controlled drugs
- Maintain up to date understanding and knowledge of anesthesia protocols
- Patient restrain, IV catheter placement, vital assessment, accurate medical record keeping
- Knowledge of all orthopedic surgical equipment/tools
- Knowledge of surgical instrument cleaning, pack preparation, and sterilization
- Become familiar with digital radiology and advanced imaging with CT, arthroscopy, and fluoroscopy
- Knowledge of sterile scrubbing, downing, and gloving for surgical assistance as needed
- Knowledge of orthopedic surgical procedures for patient preparation in the operating room
- Provide patient updates to clients and attending specialists
- Coordinate care for hospitalized, surgical, imaging, and out-patients
- Create accurate estimates for hospitalized patients and transfers
- Responsible for reviewing patient paperwork and cases histories with medical team and clients
- Stock and maintain a clean and safe working environment, able to push, pull, lift, and move up to 50 pounds
- Inpatient care of management for IV fluid pumps/lines, administration of medications (oral, IV, SQ, IM), and manual bladder expression
- Enter and update patient medical records, input medical information into electronic medical record keeping system (EzyVet)
- Appointment intake, history taking, and patient discharge
Experience
- Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of Maryland (for Technician Role)
- Experience in speciality medicine (surgery) is preferred
- At least 1-2 years experience in veterinary field is recommended
- Technology and computer competent
