Job Description

Position Title: Agronomic Expert – Seed Production (Cereals Crops)

Location: Wardha, MH

Experience: Minimum 3 years in seed production of cereals and pulses

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and oversee production of Foundation, Registered, and Certified seed classes, ensuring adherence to national/international standards.
  • Foundation seed: progeny of breeder seed, maintained under strict supervision for genetic purity and identity
  • Registered seed: progeny of foundation seed, handled and certified to be suitable for producing certified seed
  • Certified seed: progeny of foundation or registered seed, produced under regulated standards, inspected, tested, and tagged for commercial distribution
  • Conduct and supervise field inspections, ensure seed conditioning, laboratory testing, and proper tagging as per the Indian Minimum Seed Certification Standards (IMSC) or other relevant certification norms
  • Liaise with State Seed Certification Agencies, ICAR, NSC, SAUs, and other stakeholders to coordinate seed certification processes and ensure compliance.
  • Implement quality control protocols and monitor purity, germination, and contamination levels at all production stages.
  • Train and mentor technical staff and growers on seed production best practices, isolation requirements, and record-keeping.

Education

  • Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Agronomy, Seed Science, Plant Breeding, or related field.

Experience

At least 3 years in seed production specifically focusing on cereals and pulses, with hands-on experience across foundation, registered, and certified seed classes.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Deep understanding of seed class systems (Breeder → Foundation → Registered → Certified) and certification protocols
  • Familiarity with national seed certification agencies and institutional frameworks (e.g., ICAR, NSC, SAUs, SSCAs).
  • Proficient in seed health, germination, purity testing, and regulatory compliance.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
