Sous Chef – Indian Street Food

Food World Supermarket is seeking a skilled and energetic Sous Chef specializing in Indian Street Food to support and lead daily kitchen operations in a high-volume, fast-paced retail environment.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in popular Indian street food and quick-service items, ensuring speed, consistency, quality, and adherence to food safety standards. This role also supports efficient workflow management and team supervision during peak service hours.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Production
- Prepare authentic Indian street food items such as samosas, kachori, chaat varieties, pav bhaji, vada pav, dosa, wraps, rolls, pakoras, and Indo-Chinese snacks chowmein, momos etc.
- Ensure quick turnaround while maintaining consistent taste, texture, and presentation.
- Prepare chutneys, sauces, spice blends, and batters from scratch.
- Oversee daily mise en place and batch preparation for high-demand items.
- Monitor freshness and quality of ingredients at all times.
Menu & Special Offers
- Assist in developing fast-food menus, combo meals, snack boxes, and promotional offers.
- Introduce seasonal and festival-based street food specials.
- Standardize recipes and portion control for cost efficiency.
Kitchen Operations
- Support the Head Chef in supervising back-of-house operations.
- Maintain efficient workflow during peak hours.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO).
- Control food costs and minimize waste.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
Team Leadership & Training
- Train and supervise kitchen staff in Indian street food preparation techniques.
- Delegate tasks effectively to maintain service speed.
- Foster teamwork and maintain discipline in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Cook specializing in Indian fast food or street food.
- Strong knowledge of Indian spices, chutneys, batters, and frying techniques.
- Experience in high-volume, quick-service environments preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Strong leadership and time-management skills.
- Culinary certification is an asset.
