Job Description
Feldesman LLP is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our Washington, DC office. This role serves as the Firm's senior internal accounting professional and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the Firm's financial operations.
The Accounting Manager will oversee daily accounting functions and manage and review work performed by outside or shared-service providers. This position plays a critical role in maintaining strong internal controls, managing cash flow, administering payroll and retirement plan processes, overseeing firm expenses, and supporting Firm leadership with timely and accurate financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Firm's day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, trust accounting, and monthly close process
- es.Manage and review accounting activities performed by external accounting providers and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial transactions.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functions to ensure the Firm's financial stability and operational effectiveness.
- Administer payroll processes and coordinate retirement plan contributions and compliance requirements.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and other financial compliance activities.
- Review partner and employee expense reimbursements and ensure compliance with Firm policies.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
- Partner with Firm leadership on financial analysis, reporting, and strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and legal industry best practices.
- Maintain and optimize financial management systems and accounting technology platforms, including experience with SurePoint or comparable legal accounting and financial management systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, financial reporting, payroll administration, and internal controls.
- Experience managing outsourced accounting functions or shared-service providers.
- Proficiency with financial management systems and accounting software; experience with SurePoint strongly preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical capabilies.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced professional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Experience with legal industry accounting, trust accounting, and partner compensation processes.
- Experience supporting audits, retirement plans, and multi-entity financial reporting.
The good faith base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $150,000. The actual salary offered to candidates within that range will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, years of relevant experience, education, and the candidate's overall qualifications for the position as assessed by the Firm.
