Job Title: Backend SR Eng/Lead (NodeJS)

Location: Calgary, AB (Hybrid)

Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities:

Role Purpose: Lead backend service development and define standards for secure, scalable application services.

Experience

10–15+ years in backend development with 3+ years leading backend or platform teams.

Core Responsibilities:

• Define backend architecture, API standards, and service design patterns.
• Lead development of scalable and secure backend services.
• Review implementations to ensure reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Mentor backend engineers and guide technical problem‑solving.
• Collaborate with frontend, integration, and operations teams.
• Develop backend services and APIs following established standards.
• Implement business logic, data access, and integrations.
• Write automated tests and support performance and reliability improvements.
• Participate in deployment and release activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve backend issues.

Mandatory Certification: AWS Certified Developer – Associate; Node.js Certification

Required Skills

• Experience developing backend services using Node.js or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with cloud environments and database integrations.
• Strong experience with Node.js‑based backend services and REST APIs.
• Experience designing cloud‑native backend systems on AWS.
• Strong experience in backend technologies, API design, and system integration.
• Proven technical leadership and mentoring skills.

Success Metrics (KPIs):

• API reliability, performance targets, reduced production issues.
