Location: East End Community Health Centre, 1619 Queen Street East, Toronto ON and various community locations across south east Toronto
Contract length: 16 hours, with the possibility of some additional hours

POSITION SUMMARY
East End Community Health Centre (East End CHC) provides primary care, health promotion and disease prevention services to the south-eastern quadrant of central Toronto. The Centre's approach aims to improve inclusion, equity and access, with a focus on those experiencing barriers to care due to factors such as race, ethnicity, income, gender, sexual identity, sexual orientation, disability, language, or lack of housing or health insurance.
East End CHC is currently looking for an experienced photography facilitator to run photography groups for clients 55 plus. All camera equipment will be provided, and the groups will encompass both educational (e.g., how to operate professional equipment) and hands-on (e.g., field trip) training. Post-workshop to support in editing, printing, framing, and exhibiting photographic works.
The selected photographer will work closely with the Lead Community Health Worker (CHW) of the Centre, who is also an experienced freelance photographer, to prepare and execute this important project. Date and time to be negotiated based on photographer availability and community consultation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a hands-on photography workshop for clients 55 plus by teaching participants key photography skills through education and hands-on learning
- Support in the development of key programming communications, materials and media
- Encourage creativity and confidence through guided activities that fit within a shared photographic vision
- Maintain a fun, safe, and positive environment for clients 55 plus to openly express themselves through photography
- Help with setup, cleanup, and organizing supplies
- Post-workshop to support in editing, printing, framing, and exhibiting photographic works
QUALIFICATIONS
- Open to photographers of all ages
- Photographer must reside in Toronto with the ability to travel to East End CHC
- A connection to East End Toronto, is an asset
- Second language, relevant to catchment area populations, is an asset
- Experience facilitating arts-based programs, workshops, and/or groups
- At least 5+ years of professional photography experience
- Comprehensive understanding of the artistic process (from concept to finished product)
- Ability to write a formal artist statement
- Knowledge of professional printing, framing, and exhibition of photographic works
- Advanced knowledge and experience using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop with the ability to teach folks with varying levels of digital literacy
- Active listening skills, leading with empathy and compassion when emotional and/or triggering discussion arise
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated ability, commitment to and knowledge of community health care, social determinants of health and health promotion
- Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
