We have an immediate opportunity for a casual healthcare professional (Self Employed) to join our amazing team. This opportunity will allow you to earn extra income and provide you the flexibility and autonomy in creating your own schedule.

This opportunity consists of visiting nursing homes, retirement homes and private home visits performing venipuncture collections and resting ECG’s. Administrative duties required.

What this position offers You:

• Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
• Able to work without direct supervision
• Excellent telephone manner and proven communication skills
• Dealing with patient concerns, difficult draws or complaints /situations
• Collect blood samples by venipuncture
• Collect various other specimens from patients following specified guidelines
• Performs ECG, following company guidelines
• Ensure that standards for technical efficiency, quality control are met
• Available Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Ministry of Health and other government regulations are adhered to:

• Ensures all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
• Ensures supplies are properly ordered, maintained and stock has not exceeded expiry date.
• Ensures all necessary documentation is collected, completed, logged and specimens are correctly processed.
• Ensures proper documentation of receiving and recording money as per company guidelines
• Routine disinfecting of work area and equipment is to be completed on a routine/scheduled basis
• Responsible to protect their Health and Safety by reporting hazards and working in compliance with standard Safe Working Practices
• Ensure patient safety and dignity at all times
• Maintain documentation of work-related mileage, as required (mileage reimbursement given)
• Maintain and operate vehicle according to the by-laws and regulations as required
• Responsible to preserve and safeguard all confidential information that comes to their knowledge in the course of completing services on Dynacare’s behalf.
• Responsible to observe and comply with company guidelines and all applicable legal requirements with respect to confidential information and the protection of privacy

You will contribute by:

• Work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to respond to changing priorities.
• Ability to work under time pressures
• Required to lift transport specimen bags, equipment, supplies and waste from different locations.
• Carry items up flights of stairs and in and out of buildings.
• Job may require awkward bodily positions for short periods of time.
• Driving in city and on the highway (either day or night). Must deal with all weather conditions
• Collection and transportation of bio-hazardous substance

Qualifications and Competencies you will bring:

• *Certification or degree required: MLT-MLA-LPN-RN*from a recognized Canadian institution.
• *Previous venipuncture experience required: 2 years of experience*
• *A Valid driver’s license, clean abstract, must own and operate a vehicle*
• Nursing Home experience an asset
• Demonstrated skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and self-manage and work in a deadline- oriented environment
• Strong attention to details
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
