Job Description
This position is responsible for overseeing the period-end close process and managing the preparation of internal and external financial statements. This position also leads the annual internal control process and functions as the manager for technical accounting issues, including share-based compensation, asset-backed securitization entities and leases. This role is also a critical liaison to sustainability team and responsible for validation of underlying inputs and data included in greenhouse gas reporting.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
(40%) Manage General Ledger Close and Preparation of External Financial Statements and Other Reporting
- Coordinate periodic general ledger close process, including close calendar coordination with accounting and information technology; execute key internal controls related to review of manual journal entries and reconciliation of ERP to consolidation system
- Oversee senior financial analyst responsible for consolidations and eliminations and technical accounting areas (equity, investments)
- Coordinate and review senior financial analyst preparation of public financial statements (Form 10-K’s, 10-Q’s and 8-K press releases) in accordance with GAAP; support external audit process
- Maintain appropriate internal controls and adhere to Company policy and procedures. Ensure there are no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses, as defined by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
- Ensure compliance with SEC requirements and new accounting standards during quarterly reviews
- Review, analyze and document balance sheet and cash flow fluctuations
- Participate in period review meetings with Accounting Managers and other finance team members
(20%) Supervise Accounting for Leases and Asset-Backed Securitization Entities
- Oversee the senior accountant responsible for lease accounting including validation of operating versus finance lease test, lease rollforward and quarterly business reviews
- Manage accounting for asset-backed securitization entities, including subsidiary financial statement audits
(10%) Prepare Accounting and Analysis for Equity-based Compensation
- Prepare accounting and internal controls for technical accounting areas, including share-based compensation expense and tax impact of equity-based compensation
- Review senior financial analyst preparation of weighted average diluted share count and earnings per share
(5%) Advise leadership on new or technical accounting issues
- Research and provide recommendations to leadership regarding the impacts of new accounting or disclosure requirements, and perform benchmarking assessment of peer disclosures
(10%) Validate Inputs to Generate Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data
- Assess primary data for accuracy and completeness and apply estimation methods to fill any gaps
- Outline and track data collection needs according to policies and controls
- Engage as tactical liaison between financial reporting and ESG teams
(15%) Special Projects/Other
- Function as finance liaison with other departments such as HR, Investor Relations, Legal and Communications
- Support review of annual proxy, including Pay versus Performance Disclosures annual reports, etc.
- Other special projects
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance; CPA required
- 5+ years in accounting and reporting (public accounting audit experience strongly preferred)
- Strong management skills and experience as well as strong knowledge of financial accounting systems; Hyperion a plus
- Significant experience with consolidations, financial statement preparation, SEC reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley
