Senior Scientist, Organic Synthesis (Contract)

Duration: Approximately 8 weeks

Location: Onsite - Rockville, Maryland

Position Overview

We are seeking a contract Senior Scientist with deep hands-on expertise in organic synthesis to support a fast-paced, execution-focused project. This role is ideal for a highly skilled bench chemist who can rapidly integrate into the laboratory environment, independently execute complex synthetic work, and deliver high-quality results within a defined project timeline. Immediate availability is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute multi-step organic synthesis in support of project objectives and deliverables
• Troubleshoot and optimize reaction conditions to improve yield, purity, and reproducibility
• Purify compounds using standard laboratory techniques, including chromatography and recrystallization
• Characterize compounds using analytical methods including NMR and LC-MS
• Accurately document experimental procedures, observations, analytical data, and results
• Interpret analytical data to support compound identification and reaction progression
• Collaborate with internal scientific teams to align on priorities, timelines, and technical direction
• Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment

Required Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related scientific field
• 5+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in organic synthesis; industry experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to independently execute complex synthetic routes with minimal supervision
• Strong experience with analytical and purification techniques, including NMR, LC-MS, and chromatography
• Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in synthetic chemistry workflows
• Ability to contribute immediately in a fast-paced, short-term engagement

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with process development and/or reaction scale-up
• Prior experience in pharmaceutical or GMP-regulated environments
• Familiarity with technology transfer and manufacturing documentation practices
